Angels think SRK is their Knight

Selected from 24 contestants through the reality show Knights and Angels, the six cheerleaders for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were supposed to support and perform for Shah Khan’s team during the ongoing IPL season. Elated to be SRK’s angels, the six lucky girls – Ritika Chibber, Samyukta Surendar, Ananya Bera, Sana Chirawala, Sunanda Hiroo and Rupali Kantharia – would have done their job as professional cheerleaders but for an unforeseen development that shattered their dream. Political and security reasons lead to the event being outsourced to South Africa. With the South African cricket board insisting on local professional cheerleaders for all participating teams, Shah Rukh’s team of cheerleaders had no choice but to sigh and despair for the missed opportunity.

However, as part of his team Shah Rukh Khan took his cheerleaders to South Africa for ten days. Though they didn’t get to perform for their team, they however, got an opportunity to perform during the cricket carnival road show as they drove around in Cape Town in an open bus with the KKR players and owners, including Shah Rukh Khan. They also cheered to the team’s theme song, Korbo Lorbo Jitbo Re. But disappointed they were for sure. Says Ritika, an aspiring actress, “We knew that we were not going to be the cheerleaders for KKR a few days before the event but it was nice of Shah Rukh to take us to South Africa as his guests. He felt bad for us but gave us a good holiday.”

The girls are back after a ten-day trip and if Shah Rukh felt bad for them the girls are feeling equally bad for KKR’s poor performance. “One does feel bad when the team you are supporting ends up at the bottom of the table,” says Samyukta. However, all is not over for the cheerleaders. According to Rupali, Shah Rukh has assured them that they would get to perform in the next season.
