What causes the downfall of our villains?

Hey friends, I have been away for really long time. Have decided to write something after very long and it looked difficult. Nothing new these days because of the producers and distributers conflict, so have been watching a lot many old hindi movies lately. Just a thought creeped into my mind and have penned it down. Hope you all like it.

Since the conflict between Bollywood producers and multiplex owners have gone for too long now, I have taken refuse in front of my TV and have been watching a lot of Zee Cinema and Star Gold specially. I have been watching a lot of movies lately and there is one very interesting observation. That is related to the characterisation of villain character in our movies. The villain character in our movies is made to look formidable and almost invincible and untouchable no matter what he does. Well this is done to make the hero look even better and the triumph of hero over villain look more glorified.

If you see the usual villains in our movies, it's almost impossible to defeat them, unless they loose focus and what it takes for an indomitable bad guy to loose focus and gives a chance to our good guy to defeat them. After watching many Hindi movies the answer I got is, it's his love for music and dance. If you did not understand what I am saying, just pay attention. What Dr Dang was doing when his place was attacked? Enjoying a sensuous dance no by Sri Devi. Gabbar was one step ahead, he did not learn from his mistake once (he was attacked by Jai and Viru first time when he was watching Helen gyrating to the tunes of Jalal Aga), and second time when he was under attack he was watching Hema Malini dance to Jab Tak Hai Jaan, with his entire gang. What Shakal was doing? Enjoying Yamma Yamma, when his impregnable fortress was taken over by our bunch of heroes.

In fact whenever our hero and heroine could not find a way to reach villain, the only option they are left with is to dress up as dancers and perform in front of villain. Because of his love for music and dance, our villain and his entire gang fails to recognise the enemy in his too obvious disguise.

Most of the time this quality of the bad guy is imprortant because it gives you a chance to include a couple of item numbers. If Don did not have a thing for music and dance, we would not have had fanous Ye Mera Dil. Ajit was the smarter one in this lot, he used to have Mona dalrling beside him to fulfill his need for music and dance, so that he would not need his enemy disguised as dancers and singers to satisfy his needs and fall prey to their antics.

Mogambo was not into this music and dance and it took an inhuman ability or a superpower to defeat him. If our hero was not invisible he had no chance against the great Mogambo.

WELCOME TO FK SOMKER JOE !

Interesting Article Gaurav, well its so funny !
leading guyz jumps into avators of dance to enter Bad guy's den ...

Most of the
movie of 70s & 80s had similar trend. I'm not able to think any recent movie
which had similar stuff !

Villains of today are more heroic take an example of
DON DHOOM2 ETC ... in Krissh it took HR's heroic efforts to end the bad guy !

I
would like to see Mr India 2 im not sure thats gonna happen

There is rumour

thanks buddy for your encouragement. have written anything after very long time.

villains in recent movies have become more human than they were in earlier
years. also the gap between hero and villain is reducing.
i sometime miss the
characters like Mogambo, Gabbar, Shakal, Dr Dang etc. We don't see them anymore.

What bugs me is that they would show how amazing clever and skilled the Villain
is (perhaps even show that he can even shoot down someone with just a revolver
from 100s of yard away in the darkness of the night) during the set-up, and then
during the later fight with the hero he would not be able to get him even with
an AK47 in an open field. To begin with, the hero looks less heroic when the
villain suddenly becomes incompetent. BUT more than that, it destroys the
integrity of the narration.

not only that they used to show how extraordinary the villain was, they also
show what a looser hero was. our hero usually used to be jobless, a widow mother
and a blind sister with all these responsibilities over his shoulders. but by
the time climax reaches, there is a sort of role reversal. hero becomes winner
and villain becomes looser.
